An Oriental mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with reddish brown patina to the interior and dark brown to the exterior. Of slightly tapering form with a protruding base. With one small hook and four ribs dividing a band of fine calligraphy that reads: "kulluhu [...] al-baraka al-kara[ma] al-‘izz lahu" (all [...] blessings, honour and strength for him). The base slightly concave due to usage. H 10.7, D 14.6 cm, weight c. 1.9 kg.
