A Dutch mortar dated 1601

Golden brown cast bronze with natural patina. Decorated with bands of acanthus foliage and delicate arabesques. Inscribed around the rim in Latin capital letters: "LOF GODT VAN AL Ao 1601". With two zoomorphic handles. With minor signs of wear to the rim and underside. H 11.3, D 9.5 cm, includes pestle, weight with pestle c. 2.6 kg.
Deventer, attributed to Hendrick Wegewart the younger, 1601.
