A silver sauce boat from the Dresden court silver

Rounded, interior gilt navette-form vessel with a gadrooned lower section and scroll handle with Neoclassical relief decor. Engraved below with the monogram "J" beneath the Saxon royal crown and with the inventory no. 1 and the weight "3.Mr. 8.lt. _q 2 d.". H 23; W 25.5; D 10.6 cm, weight 813 g.
Marks of Christian Heinrich Roßbach, 1822.

This sauce boat bears the monogram of King John of Saxony (1801 - 1873), who succeeded his brother Friedrich August II on the throne after his death in 1854. It is found as an inventory stamp in the king's account books in the Prince's Secondary Library, today at Moritzburg Palace.
