A rare Delftware Chinoiserie plaque

Rocaille-form plaque hung with swags surrounding a central oval reserve painted with a depiction of a scholar and a songbird, below it a putto flanked by pheasants and cherry blossom sprigs. With hanging holes in the upper section. Unmarked. Minor glaze chips, slightly warped due to firing. H 28.6 cm.
Second quarter 18th C.

Cf. De Jonge, Delfter Keramik, Tübingen 1969, illus. 145, p. 138 and p. 147, for a wall light with almost identical form but with a shell-shaped terminal and candle branch. This example marked "De Witte Starre" (1723 - 1741).
