Two Meissen porcelain models of canary nests

Naturalistically rendered models depicting two birds feeding three chicks. Unglazed hollow bases with faint crossed swords marks. Chips, one bird's tail restored and with a subsequent breakage. H 9.5 and 7.5 cm.
Modelled by Johann Joachim Kaendler, January 1733, produced and painted soon after.

Described in Kaendler's workshop records as "1 canary bird nest in which are 3 chicks alongside an unhatched egg, the older canary sitting on the nest feeding its young."
