A Tyrolese carved wood figure of Saint Peter, circa 1480/1490

Carved in the round, remnants of partially overpainted older polychromy. A standing figure of the apostle designed for a slightly lowered viewpoint. He is shown carrying a book in both hands with his attribute, the keys, hanging from a ring over his right arm. The work's sculptural volume is largely dominated by the drapery of the cloak, which is drawn around the figure's body in a complicated arrangement of deeply cut folds.
Minimal wear. Height 78 cm.
