A pair of carved wooden angels with candlesticks, Naples, around 1580/1590

Carved in the round and partially freestanding. The polychromy presumably original, the skin slightly retouched. Designed as a pair. Depicted standing on square plinths holding candlesticks raised on their right sides. The figures' striding poses are highlighted by the dynamic drapery of the robes with their remarkably detailed gold, white and turquoise floral patterns.
Each with two metal hooks fitted to the reverse for (now missing) wings. Minor wear with losses to the polychromy, primarily on the reverse. Insect damage. Height of each figure 47 cm (without candle pricket).
