This unsigned drawing could be by the French draughtsman, watercolourist and book illustrator Éduard Traviès. Traviès is one of those artists whose works reflect the great interest in the natural sciences in the 19th century; a time in which magnificent and lavishly illustrated books were published on the flora and fauna of our earth. What was important here was the talent for observation and the exact, lifelike reproduction of what was seen.
