These two side panels of a small triptych, dated to the mid-16th century and attributed to Georg Pencz, represent parts of a domestic altar intended for private devotion. They bear witness to the Dürer Renaissance of this period; the depiction of the penitent Saint Jerome in the desert, for example, follows Albrecht Dürer's famous engraving.
