As the 1930s came to an end, André Lanskoy turned more and more decisively to abstract painting. His compositions increasingly take geometric forms as their subject matter and are brought to life by dynamic structures and highly emphatic rhythms. The present work's power to convince derives from its compact, seemingly organic structure, which at times leaves room for associations with a specific figuration. Lanskoy's subtle sense of colour reveals itself to the viewer in his delicate palette of pastel tones of green, blue, yellow, orange and violet, which are furnished with astounding force within a network of black contours.
With an undated photo-certificate from André Lanskoy and a photo-certificate from Michel Népomiastchy, Comité Lanskoy, Paris, dated 3.11.2021. The work will be included in the catalogue raisonné by André Lanskoy currently under preparation.
