A boxwood netsuke of a snail. Ise. Mid-19th century

Emerging from its shell with a fleshy body rendered with tiny bumps which contrast with the smooth and polished surface of the shell, one antennae reaching for the apex of shell, the himotôshi formed by the foot. Signed Masanao.
