Workshop of Johann Georg Roentgen, Copenhagen, third quarter 18th C.
Very little is known about Johann Georg Roentgen, one of the younger brothers of David Roentgen. It can be assumed that he enjoyed the same education as his brothers in Neuwied. David tried to arrange for him to serve Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel in his stead in 1777. In his letter, Roentgen mentions that he had already managed his brother's factory for five years. The request was rejected, almost certainly because of the artisan's high demands. A later document proves that Johann Georg worked as a master craftsman in the Royal Danish Furniture Magazine in Copenhagen from 1778 to 1781.
Provenance
