A pair of Meissen porcelain dessert plates from the "Schwerin Service"

Pierced basketweave rims with forget-me-not relief interspersed with bouqets in four reserves. The centre with a large arrangement of fruit and flowers. Blue crossed swords mark. Minor firing cracks to the pierced border. D 24 cm.
1762/63.

On 24th January 1781, his birthday, Frederick II gave away two important services that he had commissioned from the Meissen manufactory: the so-called Möllendorff service in honour of his general and comrade-in-arms, Wichard von Möllendorff (1724 - 1816), and the extensive dessert service for the Major General and Chief Stable Master Friedrich Albrecht Count von Schwerin (1717 - 1789). The latter service, to which these dessert plates belong, was ordered as early as September 1762 in anticipation of the end of the war and was probably one of the most demanding orders placed by Frederick II during the Seven Years' War.
