In his magnificent still lifes, Willem van Leen combines the tradition of Dutch flower painting with the decorative art of 18th century France. While depictions of putti in other paintings by the artist are often found on terracotta vases, the large relief with a billy goat and numerous putti on a broad plinth is a special feature in the artist's oeuvre.
