A 14th century carved wood figure of the Madonna enthroned, presumably to Northern France

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A figure of the Virgin enthroned designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She is depicted crowned and seated on a cushioned stone bench, holding the Christ Child standing in Her lap. The sceptre originally held in Her extended right hand has been lost.
Vertical hairline cracks. The Child's left hand and one of the Virgin's fingers lost. Wear with minor losses, especially to the crown. With a metal clamp on the reverse. Height 85 cm.
