Michelangelo Pacetti was born into a family of artists in Rome: his father, an uncle and a brother were active as sculptors. Michelangelo, however, turned to painting and trained as an artist under Martin Verstappen, who came from Antwerp and had lived in Rome since 1804. Michelangelo Pacetti mainly painted landscapes and vedutas, of which Berthel Thorvaldsen acquired two.
