Bromoil print. 30.3 x 42.5 cm. Annotated in an unknown hand in pencil in cyrillic script on the verso.

The oeuvre of the Russian photographer Sergei Lobovikov, who died in a bombing raid in 1941 - in the brief period between 1907 and 1910 he was one of the internationally renowned representatives of art photography in the tsarist empire - was rediscovered in 1993 in the inventory of the Kirov District Museum and made public in 1995 through an exhibition in cooperation with the city of Kassel. The prints presented here are from the estate of Hans Puttnies, the curator of the exhibition at the time. They are the first works by Lobovikov to be offered in an international auction.
