Herta Ottolenghi Wedekind was born in Berlin and is considered one of the most important female protagonists of the applied art of the 1920s and 1930s. Around 1920 she perfected her system for transferring abstract, symmetrically structured motifs to textiles: she would then achieve fame with this technique, which displays similarities to the folded images of the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Hermann Rorschach (1884–1922). Works by the artist can now be found at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, among other places.
