A boxwood netsuke of Benkei on a hora. Early 19th century

Benkei sits on top of a hora and holds on to the tip of the snail shell about to blow the horn, on his head the tokin of dark horn typical of yamabushi attire, the kesa (yuigesa) with two tassles (bonten) of bone.
The wide opening of the hora makes the netsuke useable as an ash tray.
