A cast zinc figure of Saint George after August Karl Eduard Kiss (1802 - 1865)

Cast zinc painted in copper and bronze on an ebonised wooden plinth. Engraved to the front "A. Meves. Berlin. Deponirt." H with base 82, W with outer edges 42, D 23.5 cm.

A life-sized plaster model of this sculpture was presented at the Paris World Fair in 1855, where it received an award. A cast version was presented in 1862 at the Great London Exposition. A version measuring over 5 metres in height, originally placed in the Eosanderhof at Berlin Palace, stands today on the banks of the river Spree in the Nikolaiviertel.
