In his 2002 expertise, Dario Succi points out the similarity of this drawing with the motif of a painting by Francesco Guardi in the Uffizi (A. Morassi, Guardi 1973, fig. 826, cat. no. 930) and with a drawing in the Art Institute in Chicago (op. cit. fig. 614, no. 632). He dates that drawing to 1780 and, accordingly, also the present sheet.

Neumeister, Munich 24.09.2003, lot 246. - Acquired there and since then in a private collection in the Rhineland.
