Portrait of a Man (Carl Robert Lessing?)

Oil on canvas (relined). 51 x 44.5 cm.
Monogrammed and dated lower right: CFL April 1850.

It has been suggested that the present painting is a portrait of Carl Robert Lessing (1827-1911), the artist's much younger half-brother, whom Carl Friedrich Lessing first met in person on the occasion of his visit to Düsseldorf in 1847 and portrayed in two drawings.
