Georg Meistermann

Ich bin der gute Hirte/Aussendung des Kreuzes
Circa 1961

Leaded glass window with black stain and metal frame. 56 x 57 cm. Monogrammed 'G.M' lower right. - In very good condition. Two small oval breakages to the glass upper and lower left.

Enlarged duplicate of one of the four side windows that Georg Meistermann designed in 1961 on behalf of the architect Horst Linde for the Protestant Johanneskirche in Bad Dürrheim. The fact that the church was built on the former property of the Order of St John led to the naming of the church and the theme of the entire interior design. The windows were made in 1961 by the Düsseldorf glass workshop W. Derix (cf. Wilhelmus pp. 370 - 373.).

Seen from the altar on the right, there are four square side windows in the church, of which the third window became the model for the present version. It shows a rotating spiral shape of blue, red, white and grey glass. The cross shape illustrates the sentence from John's Gospel "I am the good shepherd" (JOH10, 11ff).
