A Pala copper alloy altar of Vishnu and Lakshmi. Eastern India, Bihar. 9th/11th century

The deities stand side by side, each on a double lotus, Vishnu resting his right hand on the gada, and the left hand placed on a lotus, while his secondary hands hold an unidentified object and a conch, his consort Gaja Lakshmi holds a lotus in her left hand upon which stands an elephant with a vessel, in front of a prabhatorana, on a stepped base with a kneeling adorant.
