A Cizhou floral pilow. Northern Song/Jin dynasty, 12th/13th century

Bean-shaped pillow of light brownish stoneware with a flat unglazed base. The concave top is painted in dark brown on white slip with a floral vine in an incised four-panel cartouche. Five stylised blossoms on the rim, two air holes above the foot.
Height 13 cm; width 25.8 cm
