A Ratanakosin gilt-lacquered bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni. Thailand. 19th century

Seated in meditation on a lotus cushion with a cloth hanging from it, on a high three-stepped base with an inscription at the front, the right hand held in bhumisparshamudra, the left hand placed in dhyanamudra on the lap, tiny curls covering the head and ushnisha, the ketumala missing, wearing a richly patterned robe with stylised flowers and ornamental borders, the eyes of mother-of-pearl with black lacquer pupils.
