A large Ratanakosin gilt-lacquered bronze figure of a crowned and bejewelled Buddha Shakyamuni. Thailand. 19th century

Seated in meditation on a low base, the right hand held in bhumisparshamudra, the left hand placed in dhyanamudra on the lap, wearing a crown with a double-stepped spire (inset) and wing-like ornaments behind the ears and a richly patterned robe with ornamental border as well as jewelry with ornamental plaques, finger rings and bangles. Eyes of mother-of-pearl with black lacquer pupils, inlays of mirror glass.
