A sandstone arch from the prabhatorana of a Vishnu stele. Central India, Madhya Pradesh/Rajasthan. 11th/12th century

Carved with three ancillary shrine-like chambers, each seated deity therein representing an emanation of Vishnu, depicted holding his four attributes and flanked by two female attendants/Lakshmi and Bhudevi. The shrine depicted at the top centre shows a deity seated in vajrasana, his two hands placed in the lap and lotus stems rising on either side, to both sides of the central shrine Vishnu figures, the upper borders with a row of adorants. Marble stand.
