A French Art Nouveau 18k gold snake hat pin with Wartski leather case.

Round brooch designed as a coiled repoussé snake with an open maw. Pin and pin rest hallmarked: Paris "tête d'aigle" gold guarantee, the edge of the brooch stamped "LALIQUE". Diameter 4 cm. Weight 12.40 g. In a fitted leather case by Wartski, London.

Listed and illustrated in the catalogue raisonné by Barten, René Lalique, Schmuck und Objets d'Art 1890 - 1910, Munich 1989, p. 481, no. 1416,2. Described as a lost variant of the "Serpent" hat pin 1416,1 in which the serpent's body is coiled in a different way.
