An important parcel gilt Riga silver tankard

Cylindrical vessel resting on three large spherical supports with repoussé fruit motifs. The body finely engraved with an arms of alliance in an acanthus reserve, inscribed "Baltzer * Schopmann * Hansohn Anna * Wagner" and dated 1698. Monogrammed "JM" to the right and left of the handle. The finely chased acanthus cartouches above the feet depicting seated putto holding large fruit garlands. The lid and large spherical thumb rest with corresponding decor and a raised relief of Jacob wrestling with the angel to the centre. Engraved underneath with another monogram "A.D.W.". H 26.5 cm, weight 2,048 g.
Marks of Heinrich Leyse jun., 1698.
