The present work is a characteristic example of the village and town views of the Utrecht painter Joost Cornelisz. Droochsloot. These vedute usually feature a street leading into the distance, lined on one or both sides by houses, inns or walls. As always with Droochsloot, the painting is enlivened by a multitude of precisely rendered and varied figures.
