Still Life with a Parrot and Fruit

Oil on canvas (relined). 103 x 97 cm.

This magnificent still life shows a garland of fruit on a stone plinth together with a red macaw and a grey parrot in front of a balustrade with a stone vase and columns. The painting is a partial copy, possibly from the artist's own hand, of a composition that also shows flowers in a vase, a monkey, a turtle and a wine cooler in a larger format (139 x 194.5 cm). This painting was sold on the art market in 2016 (Sotheby's New York, 28th January 2016, lot 46; see also the archive of the RKD, image no. 60548).
