Oil on panel. 52.8 x 65.5 cm.
Signed and dated lower left on the supporting beam of the tower: Verheyen / f 1820.

With two old wax seals on the reverse. This painting is comparable in composition and attention to detail with a view of a canal in Utrecht dated 1822 (cf. Christie's, South Kensington, 31st January 2013, lot 9). The present painting is an imaginary view of a Dutch town, as Verheyen liked to paint it in a picturesque manner (as stated in a kind notice from Jeroen Kapelle, RKD, dated 25th September 2023).
