With a handwritten label on the reverse on the stretcher: "‘Auf der Brücke zwischen / Ariccia und Albano‘ / Nov. 1901."

The focal point of this nocturnal veduta is the bridge between Ariccia and Albano, inaugurated in 1854. However, Achenbach does not show the spectacular substructure of the bridge, modelled after a Roman aqueduct, but rather the pavement or roadway, populated by a donkey cart and several figures. In the background we see the town of Ariccia, designed by Gianlorenzo Bernini, with the Palazzo Chigi, rebuilt by him in 1664, and the church of Santa Maria Assunta, also built according to his designs.
