Jacob Theunis van der Croos

Huis ten Bosch from the east, in the background the tower of the Great Church or Saint James' Church, The Hague

Oil on panel. 48 x 67 cm.

The Dutch landscape painter Jacob van der Croos mainly depicted the sights in and around The Hague. He depicted Huis ten Bosch, the famous pleasure palace of Anna Amalia von Solms, the wife of Frederick Henry of Orange, several times. These pictures can be dated after 1646, the year in which the palace was completed. There is a very similar view, taken from a slightly greater distance and dated around 1656, in private hands (cf. archive RKD, The Hague, no. 275317).

Provenance

German private collection.
