Jacob Jordaens, studio of

The Triumph of Bacchus

Oil on panel (parquetted). 31.5 x 46 cm.

This Bacchic procession is entirely in the tradition of compositions by Rubens, van Dyck and Jordaens. There is a particularly close affinity to the work of Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678), to whom the painting was once attributed, according to a label on the reverse. Some motifs are taken from his densely populated painting "Triumph of Bacchus" in the Royal Art Collections, Brussels (inv. 3693).

Provenance

From an old Belgian private collection.
