Michiel van Huysum was born into a well-known family of artists. He was the youngest son of the painter Justus van Huysum and brother of the more famous still life painter Jan van Huysum, as well as the uncle of Francina Margaretha van Huysum, one of the most talented Dutch flower painters of the 18th century.
Michiel also painted Arcadian landscapes, but was best known for his fruit and flowers executed in watercolour. He died in Amsterdam at the age of 74.
