A gold and lacquered wood kagamibuta netsuke. Mid 19th century

The gilt-metal disc carved in katakiri with a Chinese boy throwing a stone against a jar filled with water into which a friend has fallen and is about to drown, allusion to the story of Shiba Onko, signed Shūraku with kaō. The bowl covered with kinji and displaying a tachibana branch in hiramakie and a little red lacquer.
