The denunciation of Susanna
After Antoine Coypel, second half 18th C.

Gouache on parchment, behind glass. Minor retouches to the white areas. Carved frame gilded over red bole, H 30.8, W 42.3 cm.

This subject is often also referred to as "The Fainting of Esther". A tapestry with this depiction, lost since the end of the war in 1945, was rediscovered in 2020 and restored to the Free State of Saxony. The tapestry originates from the Manufacture Royale des Gobelins and was part of a luxurious gift from Napoleon Bonaparte to the first Saxon King Friedrich August I. In 2023, the tapestry was able to be presented in the Dresden Residence Palace for the first time in almost 80 years.
