A Berlin KPM porcelain cup and saucer with a relief portrait of Princess Luise

"Walzenform" model on paw feet. Blue sceptre mark, brown imperial eagle mark, I in brown and black star to the saucer. H cup 13.3, D saucer 18.2 cm.
Around 1825, the portrait after Leonhard Posch.

The bisque relief shows Princess Luise of Prussia (1808-1870), Princess of the Netherlands as of 1825. Leonhard Posch created this portrait in profile facing left in 1825, the year of and on the occasion of the princess's marriage to Wilhelm Friedrich Karl, Prince of the Netherlands.

The portrait is backed by an oval medallion with gold-etched vermicelli ground. The handle, the inside of the cup and the three claw feet are completely covered in bright gold. The splendidly designed cup indicates a royal order. It is possibly connected to the wedding service for 50 people, consisting of many hundreds of pieces, which the bride's father, King Frederick William III of Prussia, gave to his youngest daughter as a wedding present in 1825. In addition to the early painter's mark, the fact that Posch's design is dated 1825 also suggests that the cup was made at the same time as the dinner and dessert service.
