A small Berlin KPM porcelain jewellery box

Matte Prussian blue overglaze ground applied using the stencil technique, accents in yellow and grisaille. A Cupid with a dog on the front, lily and snowball branches on the sides and back, the lid decorated with lace pattern. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark. H with lid 7, W 8.8, D 6.4 cm.
Around 1840.

This elaborately painted little box is one of the most precious objects produced by KPM during the time of the royal presentation gifts. It was most likely a personal present, possibly designed as an opulent gift box whose painted décor gave a clue as to its contents. It could also have formed part of a toilette set, possibly in silver gilt.
