A Berlin KPM porcelain vase with two views in the manner of Eduard Gaertner
The government building and the view of the Prinzenufer in Frankfurt an der Oder

Model no. 1617. Fired in two parts and screw-mounted. Painted with views of a city palace and a bridge with two cranes in the foreground in two angular foliate reserves. Blue sceptre mark with KPM, red imperial orb mark, "No: 9" in iron red to the base, inscribed "No: 9" in ink on the wooden disc below the screw mounting. H 67 cm.
1837 - 44.

Eduard Gaertner (1801 - 1877) began his apprenticeship as a porcelain painter at KPM in 1814 and was employed there until 1820. By studying architectural drawing at the academy at the same time, he achieved a level of mastery that brought the manufactory's decorative designs a groundbreaking new edge.
The views on the vase are executed in his style, recognisable in details such as the brick building with the Gothic arch on the right-hand edge of the picture, which opens up onto the view of the city palace. These are buildings in Frankfurt an der Oder. The government building in Regierungsstraße is depicted on one side. The building served as the seat of government until the 1890s. Today, the European University Viadrina is located on this site. On the second side, you can see the city bridge and the embankment suburb, now Słubice in Poland.
