A Berlin KPM porcelain plate from the dessert service for Berlin Palace

Model no. 189 with pierced decor. Painted with a bouquet in the centre surrounded by scattered flowers, moths and a gilt etched laurel border. Blue sceptre mark, impressed mark K. A horizontal crack to the glaze on the base. D 25.7 cm.
1768.

In January and February 1768, Frederick II commissioned his porcelain manufactory to produce a service of "36 place settings" for the Berlin Palace. It was to be "colourfully painted with naturalistic flowers and a few insects along with a golden border". The service was delivered in the same year, on 17th December. In March 1773, the service was supplemented by a subsequent delivery of "72 dinner plates etc."

From the first delivery to King Friedrich II.
Most recently in a Berlin private collection, acquired on the art market in 2008.
