A Berlin KPM porcelain plate from the royal dinner service with purple flowers

Model no. 631. Dinner plate decorated with a finely painted bouquet with a large rose in the centre, the gilt basketweave border hung with floral garlands. Blue sceptre mark. Minor wear to the glaze and scratches. D 24.6 cm.
1780 - 82.

This elegant dinner service "painted with a purple bouquet of flowers in the centre, festoons on the edge, together with a wide gold mosaic border" was ordered on 12th August 1780 according to Frederick II's exact specifications and delivered on 21st January 1782. It comprised only 18 place settings and was therefore intended for the king's private invitations.

Provenance

Most recently in a Berlin private collection, acquired on the art market in 2008.
