A Berlin KPM porcelain plate from a dinner service for the Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel

Model no. 674. Painted in the centre with a bouquet with a large chrysanthemum surrounded by three flowering sprigs. The rim picked out in green and gold. Blue sceptre mark. D 24.9 cm.
Around 1775.

This plate comes from a dinner service of which 19 pieces are now in the possession of the House of Hesse Foundation. It is now thought to have been a gift from Frederick II to his namesake, Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse-Kassel (1720 - 1785). The landgrave fought on the side of Prussia in the Seven Years' War, was a recipient of the Order of the Black Eagle and married the Prussian princess Philippine Auguste Amalie (1745 - 1800) in 1773.
