A German 18/21k gold granulation diamond and pearl pendant brooch formed as a bunch of grapes.

Designed as a juicy bunch of grapes, the curved stem forming the bail. The grapes finely decorated with dense granulation and set with 14 brilliant-cut diamonds (total ca. 1.90 ct, H/I, vs) and seven drilled cultured pearls with fine lustre (diameter 5.3 - 6.7 mm). Brooch with triple pin and safety clasp. Hallmarks: Fineness 750, maker's mark, imperial crown mark. 7.5 x 5.7 cm. Weight 97.72 g.
Wilhelm Nagel, Wesseling, probably 1950s.

The Jewellery Museum in Pforzheim houses a grape brooch with granulation by Elisabeth Treskow, in whose class Wilhelm Nagel studied at the Cologne Werkschulen. This piece was created in the early 1940s and is overall of flatter and more stylised design than the present work, but may well have served as an inspiration for this elaborate example of granulation technique.
