Estimate: 400 € - 600 €

A Delftware dish with Wanli style decor

Decorated with a finely painted octagonal reserve around a scene of ducks in a water landscape in the centre and Chinese auspicious symbols around the border. Unmarked. A chip to the border at 6 o'clock, some localised wear to the glaze of the edges. Diameter 39 cm.
Delft, around 1670 - 90.

The decoration is based on Chinese porcelain from the transitional period, that is, the reign of Emperor Wanli (starting in 1563). The Dutch also referred to such bowls as "Kraak" porcelain because they first came to Europe with the Portuguese carracks.

Provenance

Private collection, Hesse.
