These two cityscapes are an important addition to Adrianus Eversen's oeuvre. They are not listed in Pieter Overduin's catalogue raisonné. Dated 1855, they fall into a period in which Everson painted in great detail. Typical of Everson's light-flooded vedutas is the use of warm colours and the focus on the bustling activity of the figures. In contrast to his teacher Cornelis Springer, whose most talented pupil he was, Eversen painted less realistic depictions of buildings and neighbourhoods, instead creating harmonious views like the two offered here by combining existing with invented elements.
