The Disrobing of Christ

This interesting painting comes from the Graf Attems collection in Graz, which was sold and dispersed from 1946 onwards. It was acquired by the restorer and painter Albert Ferenz (1907-1994), who was working for the Alte Galerie in Graz at the time,
restored it in 1950 and later took it to Munich. Ernst Buchner's attribution to Jan Sanders van Hemessen cannot be upheld, but the similarity in style to the artist's works suggests a workshop piece.
