Two Large-Format Designs for a Church Mural with Scenes from the Life of Christ

The French painter Luc Olivier Merson could be the author of these two designs for murals depicting scenes from the Life of Christ. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1866 and was awarded the Prix de Rome three years later. Merson often devoted himself to religious themes and was one of the few painters of his time to receive major decorative commissions. He executed works for the Palace of Justice in Paris, for the Pasteur Museum and for the Sacré-Cœr church, for which he produced the model for the huge mosaic above the main altar.
